7 February 2014

Attending:  Laura, John, Rebecca, Dave, Amber

Regrets:  Bruce

Agenda:

        Dashboard:  At today's meeting, we plan to look at the notes taken at the All Hands Meeting and at a discussion in December to consolidate, clarify and prioritize the desired changes to the dashboard.  This should make Skye's job easier as he returns to work on the dashboard.
        Current dashboard:   http://129.24.63.92/backbone
        AHM notes:  http://epad.dataone.org/2013AHM-Dashboard
        December notes:  http://epad.dataone.org/2013Dec18-Dashboard

First focus:  summary page; colors/fonts etc are maybe half-day activities; deal with the simpler, more straightforward tasks first
Need to have Skye and Chris meet with us re: these activities

Explicitly define: where does the data come from (logs?), object, dataset, data file, other terminology

Main (summary) page
MN listing below the chart:
On MN detail page:
Metrics math: (maybe?? -  to be checked)

N_objects = N_files + N_MDfiles + N_resource_maps

Each items on the RHS may be current or deprecated.

N_Current_Objects = N_current_files + N_current_fMDfiles + N_current_fresource_maps

Does this capture the idea?

N_Currently N_data_files = 127,335 (includes obseleted content)
N_MDFile = 104,610 (includes obseleted content)

Date harvested is December and earlier for most MNs - we think we stopped while the CN synch issue is being resolved

[maybe not high priority] Where can I download the data that generates this graph? Pehaps provide a button? (Listening to our own preachin')

12.   We need to add a field to redmine for date-online for operational MNs.   (Laura/Bruce)  12/31/13 - DONE.  Field populated for operational  MNs.

---

QUESTION:  Where does the dashboard pull MNDDs from?  The only two MNs for which we don't have a DD are ESA and SANParks, but it looks like we don't have SEAD, NPN and GOA, too.
ANSWER:  There is a folder containing MN description documents (and one with MN logos) that the dataone website pulls from.  In a previous meeting, we discussed where should be the authoritative source for MNDDs, and we  decided that they should be attached to the MN's redmine ticket.  ONGOING ACTION:  Laura to ensure that MNDDs (PDF) are attached to the redmine ticket.

See also email from Amber to Chris: Date: Tue, Dec 17, 2013 at 3:28 PM; Subject: Re: Member Node Dashboard Review  --- this was probably the basis of the discussion in the 18 December meeting.

Solr index being populated with log records from MNs, so the dashboard pulls its info from MN log aggregation info
another solr index provides map information
another solr index provides counts

What is the official start date?  some MNs thought start date referred to THEIR start date (reflecting age of their repository), others considered it DataONE start date (July 2012)
=================================
        After this discussion, we can address the below if time permits:

        1. High profile issues (or current items of interest)

        New MNs announcements? -

        IDCC workshop 2/27/14 -
                    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0o7m3448b05m8h7/uLrxcxM5ZI

        1.5    Current MNs

        2. Status of upcoming MNs

        Future
        3. Old action items

        4. Not-high profile issues
             How do people get added to the MNForum mailing list?  If people express  an interest or a new MN is coming online, Laura will ask that they be  added to the list (support@dataone.org, Dave, Amber, Matt).

            We think the folks at ASU are interested in moving forward.  They have been added to the MNF list, but they were unable to attend yesterday.
