Action items from last time:

Documentation -
    taking MNs' feedback into account, improve/expand documentation for becoming a MN process;
Laura to forward Soren's comments to Rob Nahf.
Create space in repo for joint documentation effort. - awaiting direction for best "place" to put this space.
Feedback at DUG reinforced the need for detailed documentation to help MNs in their implementation process

Laura to identify MNs to be added to MNForum distribution, based on email/redmine traffic and D1 communication - ONGOING

Re: Mike Frenock at PISCO - how do we know when metacat upgrades are available?  and
Re: Mike Frenock at PISCO - is there a way to check we're on the correct dev list (i.e. metacat, etc.) so we know we're getting the right communications?

Re: Mike Freonck at PISCO - Thomson Reuters SOLR query acting wonky - I think this was resolved via email.  I can summarize the email conversation and post in a MNF epad (here, perhaps?) if that would be useful.-LM

Agenda:

0.  Welcome new attendees - introductions
Andrew Sallans - UVa, chair of DUG, here to learn about starting up a MN
Dave Vieglais - director of development and operations for DataONE
Debora Drucker - EMBRAPA, geospatial data managment, hope to become a MN someday soon, also involved with other entities who are interested in DataONE: PPBio, Biota-Fapesp, Peld (Brazilian ILTER network)
John Cobb - DataONE MN coordination
    Mike Frenock - PISCO MN
Ryan Scherle - NESC working with Dryad MN

1. Network-wide update and issues affecting MN's as a whole
Nothing DataONE affected, UNM is having issues affecting the UNM Coordinating Node
Does not affect DataONE (because of resilience of CNs) but may affect access to NM hosted entities like the public website

2. Open issues:  MNs please add anything you would like to address here.

DUG content available if you were unable to attend: http://www.dataone.org/dataone-users-group

3. Feature requests/opportunities for collaboration:
Mike: Metacat question:  although 2.0.6 and 2.0.7 releases don't affect Metacat MN are the associated DataONE jar fileset updated to newer verions?
Mike uses 2.0.5 and associated jar files
Dave: Ben or Chris can best answer this one, recent changes to metacat related to coordinating node stack, not MNs

Andrew: two projects involved in right now:
Debora:  MN description document question - can we have more than one person as the technical POC?
Laura: yes!

Mike:  Resource map work has brought up lots of questions. Some summary metadata files do not have data associated with them.  How to handle this situation?
Dave:  a resource map binds together components of a data package;
Mike:  what about the situation with SOLR queries (Thomson Reuters) when if you query something that doesn't have data, they get a blank?
Dave:  will follow up
Mike:  has this come up before and has anyone dealt with it
Dave:  TR should be able to deal with this by reviewing metadata, etc.
John:  surely TR has run into this before
Dave:  LTER is similar (lots of metadata, little/no data via DataONE)

Debora: does this have anything to do with the TR data citation index
Mike: yes
Debora: TR is evaluating PPBio's data now and so will potentially have the same issues Mike has been having

Mike:  when I was working through the resource map issues, ran a SOLR query to find the files that don't have a resource map, had one file that sometimes had a map and sometimes not (eep!), how to troubleshoot?
Dave:
Object Reuse and Embedding document (ORE)
mike: id: doi:10.6085/AA/SWC001_022MXTI005R00_20070720.50.1  <--- Mike rpeorts that this PID intermittantly fails
mike: here's the query I'm using: https://cn.dataone.org/cn/v1/query/solr/?fl=id,resourceMap&q=formatType:METADATA+-%20obsoletedBy:*+datasource:*PISCO+-%20resourceMap:*+-id:*sbclter*+-id:*parc.1.2+-id:*cdonahue.37.1+-id:*will*&rows=1000&start=0
mike: and the resource map query: https://data.piscoweb.org/catalog/d1/mn/v1/object/resourceMap_SWC001_022MXTI005R00_20070720.50.1
mike: just ran the SOLR query twice by copying from here to make sure it worked; one time the file was there the second time it wasn't.

Mike:  when PISCO metacat instance started, sharing with SBC LTER node, then they went "away", but Mike still sees stuff leftover from early on.  Is there a way to get rid of the extraneous stuff?
Dave:  yes, there is a delete operation
Mike:  is it ok to do that or will it mess something up
Dave:  will have Ben/Chris help Mike.

4. MN showcase:  Member Nodes who are present, please discuss your status:
At the last meeting:
PPBio - server transferred to another institution (see email), using Metacat 2.0.5. Hope to be Tier 4 MN. Hope to have server transfer by Mid-August
ACTION ITEM: Laura to work with Debora to set up a meeting with everyone involved.

OTHER INTERESTING THINGS:

If you attended the DUG meeting in Chapel Hill, tell us what you thought!  Were you able to find answers to your questions?  What  did you like about the DUG?  What would you change?

contact points:
NEW EMAIL contact: mninfo.dataone@gmail.com  - This email monitored by DataONE staff.  I think we might migrate to this being the primary point of contact for MN questions so we can keep a better handle on issues/resolutions.
