Meeting scheduled for Friday afternoon, 4p ET, to discuss DC in general and MPC in specific Agenda: (changing up the agenda to help flow - suggestions appreciated) :) 0. Welcome new attendees - introductions: 1. Network-wide update and issues affecting MN's as a whole NEW MEMBER NODE! The Montana Institute on Ecosystems (IoE) MN was announced Tuesday. Go here for more information about the IoE: http://montanaioe.org/ For data you could look here: https://data.rcg.montana.edu/gateway/ or search using ONEMercury Mike asked how do we know how the solr indices have changed as a result of the CCI 1.3.0 update. Bruce said he's not sure, will find out; there should be release notes and other notifications made, but we're not sure where this information will be found. -- Stay tuned -- Laura will put out an email to today's MNF attendees when we know more details. Mike has a local solr index, so will the changes effected in the update impact Mike's local solr index - Laura to investigate In searching for documentation, we need to ensure that we are looking at the current (or in some cases development or other) version - Bruce, Dave and others working 2. MN Status (MNs present talk about what's going on in their world): MNs please add anything you would like to address here. GLEON (Corinna) - added a dataset, gearing up for October meeting PISCO (Mike) - was teaching someone how to load a dataset and ran into an issue: data and metadata went up fine but resource map did not! will investigate (Ben/Chris are CCIT POCs) IARC (Jim) - will go to sandbox after 9/4/14 MPC (Tracy) - see above re: the Dublin Core discussion 3. Feature requests/opportunities for collaboration: Roger Dahl (primarily GMN) is moving to another opportunity - folks who use GMN who had Roger as a POC will have another person to work with, Bruce working. It would be very helpful to have MN POC information available to everyone. It is available on MN Description Document, but it would be nice to have that information on the MN page on the dashboard. Laura to note this in new requirements for the dashboard, and in the interim Laura will provide a list to all MN Forum folks. https://www.dataone.org/current-member-nodes#nodes <-- this is the "dashboard" or more appropriately the "current member nodes" page Jim - what is the largest dataset you can upload via the API to a GMN? Bruce - we don't know. Will ask the question on ask.dataone.org (and answer!!) - in the meantime, Jim will try it and see what happens (he has a 1TBish file to try) Mike - how to people typically load data via the API? Jim - I've been following the examples in the documentation, just a few test cases so far John - we want to ensure that DataONE can accept large datasets, working to make sure the ceiling is not too low, this is important to us in DataONE and its MNs as well to the larger data community. see below for an example of a conference where discussions of this topic would be of interest. http://wssspe.researchcomputing.org.uk/wssspe2/cfp/ also journals like Concurrancdy and Computation: Practice and Experience: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1002/(ISSN)1532-0634 Mike - how to the developers get data out there while they're writing code, etc??? John - good candidate for a best practices document Laura will ask on the developers list and see what they say and get back with everyone If you have any other comments/suggestions about anything discussed here, please feel free to post to developers@dataone.org.
